We live in the most technological age since the invention of the wheel.

Cars drive themselves, your television makes viewing recommendations and you can find a video on how to raise your own bees and harvest your own honey. What a time to be alive!

The truth is technology is one of those tools that can be used for good or bad. Criminals have learned how to use modern technology and the internet to become professional thieves. Hacking and cybercrimes are a real concern in this century. Crooks are shameless and dedicated to taking advantage of anyone they can.

Did you know that these dirt-bags have figured out a way to manipulate caller ID systems? They have the ability to copy a phone number, business name and address assigned to a financial institution and call you from that number as if they were calling from that specific location.

When you look at your telephone to see who is calling you, the caller ID says Access Community Credit Union, when in fact it could be someone from out of state or out of the country. As your financial institution, we will never call you to ask for your personal information.

We only ask identifying information when you call us here at the credit union.

We will NEVER CALL YOU and ask for your account number or social security number. This is a tactic that scammers will use to try to gain your personal information.

Don’t release any personal or financial information to anyone who is calling you. Don’t let them intimidate, scare or force you to give them your information. Be aware of your account activity and balances, as well as checking your account frequently. Be proactive about protecting yourself.

If you feel like you have received one of these phone calls, hang up immediately. Give us a call here at the credit union and we will answer any questions you have.

You’ve worked hard for your money. Don’t let someone take advantage of you because they are handy with a phone and computer. Protect your information like you would a pocket full of cash.

As always, we are here to serve you, if you have any questions or concerns, please call us here at the credit union (806) 353-9999.  We would love to talk to you.
